The Historic Mosque City of Bagerhat is an important evidence of
medieval city of Bagerhat district which is located in the south-west
part of Bangladesh, at the meeting-point of the Ganges and Brahmaputra
rivers. The historic city has more than 50 Islamic monuments which have
been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. The
Sunderbans-world biggest mangrove forest which is also UNESCO World
Heritage is situated at Bagerhat. Mongla Sea Port is the most
Eco-friendly port and Second Sea Port in Bangladesh as well situated at
Bagerhat. But this most important area of the country is away from
major development activities due to lack of national leader in this area
for the last few decades and there are no one to raise voice
nationally for the development of this part of the country.
reason, Bagerhat Development Society is formed by the professionals and
businessman to pursue with the government and non-government
organisation to ensure proportionate development of Bagerhat. Initially
we are fighting for seven points demanding i. Airport ii. University
iii. Modern sea port at Mongla iv. Tourism centers for Sunderbans and
Bagerhat City v. Cricket stadium vi. Stop coal based power plant at
Rampal and vii. Mongla-Dhaka Railway. This dream will not come without
tremendous cost and therefore we seek support from all political and
social organisations and above all mass people of Bagerhat.
May Allah help us to reach our destination.
